ANDERSONS http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/5944
My great-grandfather Lewis Anderson left Scotland in 1837 to start a new life in America. Lewis lived with Archibald Rhynd in North Warren, PA who I believe was his brother-in-law from Scotland. Jane joined Lewis in America about 1844. Coming from a farming family in Scotland, it was only natural that they pursue a farming life in America.
They settled in western New York in the towns of Ellicottville and Machias, Cattaruagus County. Lewis and Jane started a farm and a family, mostly boys. William, John C., George, Archibald, Clara, and Charles were born quickly in succession. William and John went to war in 1864 as soon as John C. was old enough and got married when they got back home. Lewis and Jane moved from Machias to Allegany about 1859.
Lewis and Jane died shortly thereafter (1868)while Clara and Charles were very small. William and John C. had already started their own farms by this time. John C. later moved into Olean, New York on the south side of the river on Riverside Drive and continued to farm the land on Two Mile Road. I am the grandson of John C. Anderson, born in 1847, in Ellicottville, New York. He was hit by a mini-ball during the Battle of Hatcher's Run in 1864, but his watch and bible took the impact and saved his life. William wasn't so fortunate. A tree fell on his tent and put him in the hospital for several months. Orilla Hall Anderson, John C.'s wife, was a great granddaughter to David Hall, who fought in the Revolutionary War.
I am researching this Anderson line back to Scotland. Mysteries still to be solved is where Lewis became naturalized.
FITCH
On the Fitch side (my wife's line) things are bit more documented. Reverend James Fitch ca 1638 came to America and made quite an impact on Connecticut as did some of his descendents. See the Fitch reports at the bottom of this page. They are continually being updated as new information is uncovered.
KINGSLEY
I have now started research on the Kingsley line (my GGM) and have quite a bit of info, thanks to some generous genealogists, who some, it turns out, are related. I will do lookups from the book "The Kingsley Family in America"
HALL
On February 1, 1998, Jim Forrest of Ischua, New York sent me a FTM file on the Hall family of Cattaraugus County, New York. This added volumes to my Hall data. A cousin, in Idaho, Corinne Moyers made a trip back to New York three years ago and gained much data about the Halls from Philo back. Colleen Switzer gave me loads of stuff on the Nebraska Halls.
