| John Robinson and his wife Lydia Cole were early pioneers of the area that is now Johnson County Tennessee. They were in the area by about 1795. John is somewhat a mystery, his birth place and date unknown. Family legend claims he was of Scotch-Irish heritage, and came to Tennessee from Williamsburg Virginia, however this remains unproven. Lydia Cole was from an early New England family that re-settled in southwestern Virginia before the Revolution.John and Lydia's children married into a wide variety of Appalachian cultures. Some of their many grandchildren and decedents were (in part) Pennsylvania Dutch, French Huguenot, Swedish, Melungeon, and possibly Cherokee blood, in addition to English and Scotch-Irish.
