| I am looking for any information on descendants of Phillip "Phil" DUNIHOO (born ca 1802 somewhere in Kentucky). Naturally, I'm also looking for any info on my other ancestors as well. But, first, let me tell you a bit about Phil DUNIHOO. Phil DUNIHOO is said to have first married an Indian maiden "with yellow hair" (was she a Caucasian child who'd been kidnapped and raised by Indians?). They are said to have had 2 children. But then, supposedly, this wife and both children died. However, they may not have. There are families of DUNIHOOs living in the Fort Morgan, Colorado area and the Pinckneyville, Illinois area who may be descended from Phil DUNIHOO or from his direct kin (I figure it more likely that the Illinois DUNIHOOs came from Kentucky and might be descended from one of Phil's brothers). Phil DUNIHOO next married Charlotta "Lottie" MOODY (born c1805 in either Tennessee or Missouri; died 1878 in Overland, TX). She had previously been married to Luke ROBERTS (supposedly the first Anglo-American killed by Indians in what is now the State of Texas) and then James Reddin TRAMMELL. So I'm curious about their family connections, too. Phil DUNIHOO's parents may have been John and Sarah (Wood) DONAHOO, who married 28 August 1798 at the Dutch Reformed Church in NYC. (A John and Sarah DONOHOE were witnesses at a Quaker wedding in Shelbourne Parish, Loudon Co., VA on May 1, 1800.) Or, his father may have been James DUNAHOU of Warren County, KY. So any additional info on them would be appreciated. Phil DUNIHOO and Lottie MOODY had several children: Andrew, Phillip, William Riley, Sarah Adeline (m. Stephen J. HARRIS), James Murl (my ggf), John Anderson, Malinda and Lucinda (m. James A. STOCKTON). We know the descendants of Wm Riley, James M., and John A., but any info you might have on the others would be greatly appreciated. MY ANCESTORS: My father's father's mother was Nancy Ann HANCOCK. Her father was Jefferson "Jeff" HANCOCK (b. c1830, GA; d. aft.July 1864, AL). Her mother was Liddia BRIGGS (born June 4, 1834 in AL). I've been very curious about this line for some time. We think they may have been Choctaw or Cherokee, but have no records. My father's mother was Lula Harriet CURTIS. Her father was William "Willie" CURTIS (b. c1869, Little Rock, AR; d. 1897, Frost, TX), and her mother was Nancy Isabel WALLACE (b. c1872, AR; d. 9/9/1958, Roswell, NM). My mother's father's mother was Sarah Emma DAVIS (b. 4/15/1859, Drew Co., AR; d. 9/17/1888, Terrell, TX). Her father was William Richard DAVIS (b. 11/11/1823, TN or NC; d. 4/7/1900, Hopkins Co., TX) and her mother was Lucy P. RUTLAND (b. 7/18/1825, NC or MS). My mother's mother was a WAGGONER (as were both her parents). ANCIENT CONNECTIONS IN NEW AMSTERDAM, IN HOLLAND AND ELSEWHERE: We know that my mother's ancestry can be traced back to the Dominie (Reverend) Everardus BOGARDUS and his wife Anneke JANS. Their oldest son, Willem, had a daughter named Anna who married Jacobus Adam BROUWER, son of Adam Brouwer BERCKHOVEN. As much as I would like to know more about Adam BROUWER's ancestry, it is that of Anneke JANS that is most intriguing. There is a tradition (probably unwarranted and, as far as I know, unproven) that her father (Jan ?) was the illegitimate child of Annetgen COCH and WILLIAM THE SILENT (savior of the Netherlands). Is it also possible that Jan could be descended from MARTIN LUTHER's best friend, Justus JONAS (who also used the name Jodocus Koch)? Have you anything at all on any of the above? If so, I'd love to hear from you. And, thanks for reading this far. |
