I've been researching my family roots, which seem to originate mainly in the Buffalo,Erie Co., NY area. The BRZOZOWSKI side emigrated to the U.S. about 1905, and settled in the Buffalo, NY area. From the records that I've been able to locate, they originated in Austrian Poland. Frank & Stanislawa CIESIELSKA were the original immigrants(their children were;Lottie,Bertha,Arthur,Louis,Sophia,Vincent,Wanda,Sylvester,Theophil, & Stefan). Frank's first wife died in 1916,and he married Tekla CERKIEWICZ in 1917 (their children;Stanley,Chester,& Theodore) . LESNIAK, DUBIEL, & BUREK are also some ancestral names from that branch of the family. My Dad legally changed his surname from BRZOZOWSKI to BARRICK in 1950, before I was born.
The ROMANOWSKI side arrived in Buffalo around 1890. Some of my maternal ancestral names are HOCHMUTH, LOWICKI, KOLODZIEJEWSKI, WINTROWSKI,GOLABEK, & SKOTNICKI. I have tracked some of these relatives to Klonowka, Poland (near Gdansk).
I'd appreciate any additional information, and I'm willing to share my research also.
NEWSFLASH!
7/6/99 Since I started this site, I’ve had a chance to travel back to Buffalo & dig into the dark dusty dungeon known as the Erie County Hall basement. On my first try, I found Grandpa Brzozowski’s U.S. Naturalization papers! They showed that he was born in Jakubkowo, German Poland, and his final residence in Poland was Wabrzezno. He & the rest of his immediate family traveled on the “Noordam I” from Rotterdam, and landed in NY, NY in August 1904. My thanks to the very helpful people in the E.C. Records Dept. – unfortunately, I didn’t get their names.
ROMANOWSKI 7/8/99 If anyone on the Romanowski side is interested, there's a picture of my great-great-grandpa Frank Romanowski in his 65th New York Volunteer uniform on the Spanish American War site, http://www.spanam.simplenet.com/65thNewYork.htm . Check it out!
