Find Family

* Kelly 'Kanadian' Kin*

Updated September 6, 2000

We have been searching for the origins of my paternal great-grandparents for some time now. Daniel KELLEY (born ca 1801, died 1861-1871) and Maria FLEMING (born 1812, died 1884, Ottawa, Ont) were married in 1845, in Kemptville, Ontario, Canada. The only info known is that they were both born in Ireland and were married in a Catholic Church. They homesteaded in Wolford Township, Grenville County and raised seven children: John, Michael, Thomas, Mary-Ann (married Wm WHALEN, Carleton Place, Ont), James Patrick (married Margaret COLVIN, Ottawa, Ont), William F (my grandfather - married M. Laura RICARD, Sudbury, Ont) and James (born and died 1860 -61). A Mary-Ann MERCIER, a possible relative, was also raised by the Kelleys. I am trying to collect ANY mention of the Kelley/Kelly and Flemming/Fleming surname in Lower and Upper Canada in the 1800's. They must have had relatives somewhere! Please contact me if you are related to, searching for, or know of someone researching this family. (or if you are willing to share the names of your ancestors in Canada at that time period)Also searching for ancestors and descendants of Patrick HAWTHORNE and Selina DOWNIE, both of Co. Down, Ireland. They settled in Goulbourne Twp, Carleton Co., in 1847, Ontario, Canada. Children: William John, George Charles, Eliza Jane, Thomas, Archibald Cameron (my grandfather), and Annie.Selina's father was John DOWNIE, farmer, of Ringdufferin (he is in Griffiths Land Valuation). Patrick's father was John HAWTHORNE, shoemaker, perhaps of Ballymacromwell.We are seeking to further our search for the origins of James CONDIE, of Tillicoultry, Clackmannanshire, Scotland ; settled in Beachburg, Westmeath Twp, Renfrew Co (first wife Isabella DRYSDALE - my family is descended from his second wife Ann BROWN).Other surnames: (they all came to Upper Canada from the USA at the same time as the loyalists) BROWN (Dutchess Co. NY), LAMB (Worchester, MA - there is a length family listing on the Latter Day Saints AFN, which I have not had time to pursue yet; dating back to the 1600's in Salem, MA), McINTIER (McINTYRE, McINTIRE etc; Worchester, MA) and HASKINS.
