I am descended from the Schwarz and Bloch families who were the first Jews permitted to settle in Floss, Bavaria in the 17th century. Mendel and Bella Schwarz had twelve children, seven of whom found their way to the U.S. between the 1840's and 1870's. Most of them eventually settled in Newark, New Jersey, but for a time there were family members in Columbus, Georgia, as well as Boston and Philadelphia. Now we are dispersed around this country and in Israel and Europe but there are still many Schwarz/Bloch descendants in New Jersey. |
