I am researching the Martin-Sexton, Adams-Singleton, Odom, Robbins-Culpepper-Cathey surnames. John W. Martin b. abt 1803 in TN, was my gg grandfather m. Matilda Unk b. abt 1804 in NC. Three of John and Matilda's sons married three of Brittain and Nancy Moody Sexton's granddaughters. My gg grandfather Sexton was George William Sexton. His daughter, Mary Frances "Polly" Sexton married my great grandfather, Andrew Jackson Martin in 1858, in Stewart Co., TN. They lived in Stewart County until 1884-85, when Andy moved his family to the "Old 23rd" District of Henry Co., TN. Some of the older children who were already married stayed in Stewart Co. My grandfather, Daniel Lonzo Martin was about 3 years old at the time of the move. He later married Lavica Elizabeth Odom, daughter of Lewis Doctor Franklin Odom and Mary Paralee Robbins Odom.
My Mother's father was descended from John and Winnifred Bussell Adams of Rowan Co., NC. John Adams was born abt 1748. He and Winnifred were married Aug 15, 1768, in Rowan Co., NC. His son, William moved his family to Calloway Co., KY about 1828. My Mother's mother was descended from Robert Singleton, b. Ireland. Robert's son, James, came to Hickman Co., TN before 1812. It was here that James and Mary Elizabeth Duncan Singleton's three sons were born: James L., b. May 1812; David C., b. abt 1817; Robert A., b. Aug 24, 1819. James L. first married Eliza Ann Totty, and had one child: Dona Martha Singleton. After Eliza's death, James L. married Catharine Gibbons and had 11 children. The family moved to Perry Co., TN where some of the children were born. James L. was a school teacher. James and Catharine's number 10 son, George Byron Singleton, was born Feb 07, 1860, prob. in Perry Co., TN. The family moved to Calloway Co., KY shortly after the Civil War.
