| My earliest known ancestor is Francis Marberry who was born 7 May 1781 in North Carolina. I believe he is one of the six sons of Francis and Tabitha MARBERY who are listed in the 1790 Census of the Salisbury District in Rowan Co., NC. Francis and Tabitha MARBERY had three sons born before 1774 and three who were born after 1774. Francis and Tabitha Marbury sold their lands on Little Kiokee Creek, Richmond Co., GA in 1786 and purchased lands in 1789 in Rowan Co., NC on the Yadkin River at the Dutch Second Creek. They sold this land in 1795 and moved to Montgomery Co., NC. Tabitha is listed as the head of household here in 1800, and I believe that Francis Marbery died in this same year, 1800. I am interested in all branches of the Marberry and Marbury families and will share any information that I have. The descendants of Francis Marberry (of 1781) are shown in my family tree in World Family Tree, Vol. 4, Pedigree # 2378. John Monroe Marberry married Hester Gould Morrisset in 1869 in Humphreys County, TN. The next year John and his younger brother, Francis Marion Marberry, purchased 160 acres at the junction of Trace Creek and the Tennessee River overlooking the town of old Johnsonville in Humphreys County. John and Hester are buried in a Marberry family cemetery located on their homestead. Francis M. Marberry is buried in another Marberry Cemetery located on his neighboring lands. A third brother, Hiram J. Marberry is buried in yet another Marberry Cemetery located on Little Dry Creek where his homestead was located nearby. Hester G. Marberry lived on the lands overlooking old Johnsonville until her death in 1938, just before the access to these lands was flooded for the Tennessee Valley Authority project. Marshall Marberry, Sr., 13Mar1915 TN-23Apr1996 IL +Janet Pauline Greenhalgh, 29May1914 WI .....5 John Lee Marberry, 13Jan1947 IL +Leigh Carol Anderson, 1Nov1948 NY John Monroe Marberry, Sr's. youngest brother, Francis Marion Marberry (1836-1905) in 1850 was living with the family of Spencer M. Bankston in Louisiana. In the mid 1800's in Mississippi there is a Jacob Marberry Bankston. I am trying to find the connection between the Marberry family and the Bankston family. The Francis Marbery family of Rowan Co., NC lived in the vicinity of several Bankstons in Rowan Co.. Can anyone help with this connection? |
