| Welcome! I have divided my research into the following sections: the PHIPPS Family, the LONG Family, the VAUGHN Family and the GILES family. I will strive to include information on each family and update often. I will try to focus on the background of one family about every two weeks. I welcome all suggestions, comments or questions. The report, THE DESCENDANTS OF GEORGE LYNCH AND MARTHA (aka Marsha) CLAY, shows how the Lynch Family connects with the Long and Vaughn Families. I have very little information on the Clay Family. However, I have a great deal of information on the Lynch family. Please check back soon for a more detailed background on the Lynch Family, or email me. Main locations of Lynch family members: De Soto Parish, Louisiana and later moving Texas, Wise and Parker County areas. The report, THE DESCENDANTS OF THOMAS PHIPPS AND GENCY CAREY shows how the Phipps and Longs connect with the Phipps Family. I have very little information on Gency Carey. Gency and Tom had two children, the oldest, John Phipps was born in Tennesse. Family sources say Thomas or a member of his family applied for a confederate pension. Gency later remarried in life to a Jim Crumpton. Main locations of the Phipps family members: Tennesse in Davidson County area, Texas in Jack County area, and Oklahoma. The report, THE DESCENDANTS OF JOHN LONG AND MARY VANSANT shows how the Vaughn and Phipps connect with the Long Family. I have extensive information on the Long Family. John Henry Long was a doctor. Mary S. Vansant married John Long about 1845. Her madien name could possibly be Van Zandt, Van Zant, or Vinsant. Mary was born in North Carolina in 1829. Main locations of the Long family members: North Carolina, Mississippi, Arkansas, Texas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma/Indian Territory. GILES FAMILY BACKGROUND: The Giles family history has been traced back to Marion Hollis Giles and Maggie Emma Truitt. The accurate spelling of Maggie’s last name is not known. Marion was born in September of 1852, location unknown. Maggie was born on November 22, 1866. Marion and Maggie had six children. Maggie was about eighteen when they had their first child, a daughter, Lydia A. Giles was born in April of 1884, location unknown. Their second child, Ethel Carol Giles was born October 5, 1886, location unknown. Their third child, a son, Jessie Giles was born December 1889, location unknown. Their fourth child, Eva Belle Giles was born September 24, 1891, location unknown. Their fifth child, Angus Giles was born May 19, 1892, location unknown. Their sixth child, Floyd Giles was born September 9, 1898, location unknown. About a year and a half later, Eva Belle passed away on January 13, 1900, at the young age of eight. A short year later, on February 16, 1901, Maggie passed away. Marion and Maggie’s youngest child, Floyd was a tender age of two, when his mother passed away. Maggie and Emma both died in Paris, Texas in Lamar County. Ethel Carol was supposedly married about the age of 14 in Paris, Texas in Lamar County... the approximate date would have been abt 1900. Sometime after Maggie’s death in 1901, the Giles family settled in West Burns Run, the settlement was called Coffee's Bend. Lake Texoma did not exist at this time. M.H. Giles had a grocery store in Cartwright, Oklahoma. Then they later moved to Platter,Oklahoma. He had a grocery store there. He died in Platter in 1942 at the ripe old age of about ninety. He is buried in the Garden of Memory Cemetery in Colbert, Oklahoma. Always diggin' up the past............Come back soon! Updated April 13, 1998 |
