UPDATE, 22 July 2008 - There is a new file on William Polk & Margaret Taylor Descendants, same title as old file, this one only to 6 generations (due to private material in later generations), but all sources are present (unlike the old file). No notes, these truncated because of private material in said notes. If reference is made in the file to notes, you will have to contact me for info.

UPDATE, 5 Oct 2007 - I have seen much erroneous and unproven information on the Internet about the ancestry of Robert (Bruce?) Polk of Somerset Co., MD. Some of the info in the file I have below of this man's ancestry is NOT PROVEN. This file reflects, basically, what the old Polk genealogies state, that Robert (Bruce?)Polk's father and grandfather were Sir Robert Pollock II and I, respectively, of Ireland. I do not think these two Sir Pollocks existed. I put the file here some years ago so people would have access to information in print that is often hard to find (hard copy). The data in the file has sources, but some of the sources are genealogies, and genealogies are often wrong. Please do not perpetuate Robert Polk's ancestry as given here and what you might find elsewhere on the Internet as fact. Robert (Bruce?) Polk's ancestry is not known. Questions, contact me via email.

UPDATE, 5 Oct 2007 - Capt. John Polk who m. Eleanor Shelby - lots of material published for him is erroneous. Questions, contact me.

UPDATE, 2 May 2007 - I just returned from a visit to Madison Co., AR. I have many tombstone pictures of the Evan Shelby Polk family line. I did not find the grave of Evan Shelby Polk. Contact me with questions.

UPDATES, 6-8 Sep, 2005: Most files are new. I have truncated all notes and most sources from these files (for your information about the type and volume of sources I have, I left sources in a few of the files). Adding notes (especially) and sources causes some of these reports/files to become too large and cumbersome and very slow to load. I have several thousand pages of notes and of sources. If you want/need to know the source for something or need detailed information which might be contained in notes, please email me.

UPDATE OF 1 Aug 2005: If you are a descendant of William Polk/Margaret Taylor (greatgrandparents of President James Knox Polk), I strongly recommend you read the file entitled "William Polk m. Margaret Taylor - WHO IS HE?"

I have posted several of my unknown (or unlinked; within the file, the progenitor is designated by name with UNLK after the name) Polk lines here, but I have many, many more Polks and bits and pieces of Polk lines just waiting to be hooked up with known Polks. See the UNLINKED people file. Info there may help you; your info/response may help me.

I am interested in ALL Polk lines, including females. I work on all of them. If you don't find what you are seeking here, contact me (sorry, no search available). The files shown here are research databases, not finished products.

Please contact me with questions, deletions, additions, comments. I welcome information on your family line.

I am happy to correspond with people and help them find their Polk roots and/or discuss Polks and related lines and exchange info, and answer any questions I can.
