Welcome! I am a descendant of John BAYLES who settled in Long Island, NY about 1635. His many descendants are scattered acrosss the United States. My branch of the family comes fromDaniel BAYLES who settled in what is now Washington Co., TN. The descendants of Daniel added a second 'S' to their name; therefore, my most recent ancesters include my grandfather Julius "Boss" BAYLESS of Limestone Co., TX; Rev. William Clinton BAYLESS of Walker Co., GA, and Limestone Co., TX, John Porter BAYLESS of McMinn Co., TN, Catoosa Co., GA, and Walker Co., GA, and Samuel Porter BAYLESS of Washington, Greene and McMinn Co.s, TN.

I am trying to verify the fact that Samuel Porter BAYLESS was a son of John BAYLES and Ann PRICE of Washington Co., TN. I believe that Samuel may have been Baptized and possibly married at Cherokee Creek Baptist Church in Washington Co. He probably died near Athens, TN, sometime after 1850. He is in the 1850 McMinn Co. census but he is not in the 1860 census.
