My name is Tamala Stevens and I am originally from Loris, S.C. I am researching my family from the same Horry County area (also some from Columbus County N.C.) Researching:NEALY, STEVENS, CAINES, ANDERSON, SUGGS, STALVEY, PATRICK, CARTRETTE, ALFORD, CARROLL, ELISABETH, NORRIS, TODD, HARRELSON, MISHOE, and BOYD.From the information I have (family folklore) Eligha NEALY came to North Carolina from Ireland around the early 1800's. He married Wineford (? last name) and settled in Columbus County, N.C. and eventually migrated to S.C. in the early 1900's. Eligha's grandson, Jordan NEALY, Jr. (b.1834-d.1862) and g-grandson, William Brinkley NEALY (b.1857-d.1917), both married CARTRETTE women, Mary CARTRETTE (b.1835) and Maranza Ann CARTRETTE(b.1854-d.1917), both from Columbus County, N.C. I would love information on them. I have information on the STEVENS line as far back as Benjamin STEVENS (around 1900) and his son James Washington STEVENS(b.1845-d.1921), my gg-grandfather. I also have names of brothers and sisters of James, all from Horry County, S.C. 1st g-grandmother, Tempie MISHOE (b.1894-d.1983), is the daughter of Ellis MISHOE (possibly Elton) and Mary TODD. Tempie married Stanley STEVENS (b.1892-d.1983), son of James Washington STEVENS and Mary BOYD. I have the names of 9 siblings of Stanley.2nd g-grandmother, Bessie SUGGS (b.1904-d.1981), is the daughter of William Henry SUGGS and Eliza Jane HARRELSON. I have the names of 7 other siblings. Bessie married Oscar Guthrie ANDERSON, son of Eliza Jean STEVENS and Henry Needham ANDERSON, son of Alexander ANDERSON. No dates as of yet. 3rd g-grandmother, Amanda Melvina SUGGS (b.1874-d.1971), is the daughter of Mary Fannie TODD(b.1851) and James Franklin SUGGS (b.1849), possibly the son of Fain SUGGS and Annie May. Amanda had 23 brothers and sisters!4th g-grandmother, Carrie Effie NORRIS (b.1891-d.1971), is the daughter of William Berry NORRIS (b.1830-d.1910) and Mary F. PATRICK (b.1851-d.1937). Mary's parents are Isaac PATRICK (b.1817-d.1898) and Mary ELISABETH (b.1829-d.1911). William's parents are William NORRIS, Jr. (b.1791-d.1876) and Priscilla ALFORD (b.1786-d.1888). Priscilla is the daughter of John ALFORD and Dolly CARROLL. William Jr. is the son of William NORRIS, Sr. and Nancy.Carrie Effie NORRIS married George Spurgeon CAINES (b.1891-d.1956), son of Samuel James CAINES (b.1850-d.1928) and Ann Tilda STALVEY (b.1853-d.1920). Ann is the daughter of James STALVEY (b.1814) and Elizabeth ? (b.1817). Samuel CAINES is the son of William Henry CAINES, Sr. (b. 1831) and Sarah R. (b.1831).I would love any information on any of these surnames around North and South Carolina. |
