My family (Theis) came from near the Lux-border, about 15 clicks away in Germany, a village called Hommerdingen (near Neuerburg). Some of them --> USA (Ill., Wis.)in mid 1880's. My Grandmother came from Stadtbredimus,Lux. Her name was Catherine Wintringer, born 1861, emmigrated to Wisconsin and married in Port Washington in 1889. Places of interest include Hommerdingen, Geichlingen, Scheuern, Körperich, Neurath, Brimingen, Gentingen,Niedersgegen, Koxhausen, Mibich, Mettendorf. On the States' side, Milwaukee amd generally Wisconsin. I'm an American,living in Zürich and have been researching about 4 years now, with trips to the church and civil archives for the Bitburg region. I can go back to about 1720 for the Theis German side, but then run up against a brick wall (Wars,fires, etc.) so I'm trying to locate a family bible. I would also be interested in the names Gales from the Bitburg region as well as Schmitz. Any help would be appreciated and reciprocated..... |
