My great-grandfather, ROBERT GAVAGAN, was born "at Boyle in County Roscommon, Ireland" in 1830, emigrated in 1847, was naturalized in Boston, MA, in 1852, married MARY AGNES LYNCH (daughter of Ellen and Michael Lynch of Boston) in 1859, (all of whom were Irish immigrants), and lived out his life on 3rd St. then on 5th St. in (south) Boston. His parents were THOMAS and ELIZABETH (Burns) GAVAGAN, and his nine children included Nettie, Robert, David, James, Mary Agnes, Lizzie, Alice, Thomas, and Edward, all born in Boston between 1862 and 1879. My grandfather, also named Thomas, moved to Providence, RI, where, in 1910, he married Bessie Montague. His son, my father, also named Thomas, was born there in 1911.

My great-grandfather JOHN G. SULLIVAN, born in Ireland, (in County CORK or Kerry - I'm almost sure), was the son of JEREMIAH and CATHERINE (Sullivan) SULLIVAN. JOHN and his wife, MARY M.(O'Connor)SULLIVAN, whom he married in 1858, arrived via NY in 1869, where they lived in 1869 and 1870, (I don't know in which county or boro). They went on to live in Scranton, PA (1871), and in Jewett City, CT (1873), and then I lost track of them, though they may have returned to NY, until they settled with their by-then six children (Hannah, James, Joanna, Joseph, Stephen, and Mary) in New Bedford, Massachusetts in the mid 1880s. John died there in 1902; Mary in 1813.
