  Coats of Arms were developed in the Middle Ages as a means of identifying warriors in battle and tournaments. The Whitmore Coat of Arms is described as follows. The blazon or shield is green with gold trelliswork. The green means hope, vitality and plenty. The gold or yellow denotes generosity, valor or perseverance. Above the helmet is a tree trunk with a falcon standing on it. No explanation of this symbol was available.
