      The name Grice is from either Middle English 'grise, grice' from old Norse 'griss' meaning 'a pig', or Middle English 'gris, grice' from Old French 'gris' meaning 'grey, or grey-haired'. Origin of names.

      James died in Rutlandshire, England. Charlotte died in Cowthorpe, Lincolnshire, England on July 3, 1664. They were both buried in the celebrated Ryhall Churchyard. We are presuming that they were Church of England, since the children were christened and Luke was married in Ryhall Church of England.

[Note: Ryhall, a Parish and Village in Rutland, three miles north-north-east of Stamford, Lincolnshire. James and Charlotte's children were born in Carlby, Linc. about 4 miles north of Ryhall.]

Possible parentage: John and Elizabeth Searson, Charlotte b. Oct 28/1797 recorded in Tuxford, Nottingham, England. Source: FHL # 504052 Dates: 1598-1812. [The year is very close and Nottingham is very close to Grantham and Carlby, Linc., etc. Could this be a christening date? MRA Apr 6/1999.]
