SURNAMES I'M RESEARCHING
I've done most of my research on the ARMSTRONG line and a lot of my work has been to document my current generation. The earliest Armstrong I've been able to document is Alexander Armstrong and his wife Margaret McCollum who married in 1795 in Greene County TN. It is believed that Alexander is the son of Lancelot Armstrong and Rachel Gamble of Virginia. Alexander's son was Andrew Jackson Armstrong born about 1817 in TN, who married Elizabeth Martin in 1844 in Washington Co. TN. After Elizabeth's death, the family moved to Bradley Co. TN in 1850. Elizabeth's son, David Alexander, moved his family about 1885 to Collin Co. TX and later to the Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory (about 1895). The family is scattered over many states now, most of them are in Texas. For more information on this family see http://www.angelfire.com/tx2/karmstrong/genealogy.html

My BOSS line started in Rowan (later Davidson Co.) NC around 1790, moved to Washington Co. IN around 1810 and stayed there till my mother, Betty Boss, came to Texas in 1950 and married my father, Ira Armstrong. More on the Boss Family at http://home.swbell.net/kayarm

The BREEDEN family is proving elusive. John C. Breeden, who is my gggrandfather (I think) was born in Sevier County TN about 1823. His son, William, was born there in 1858 and came to Fannin Co. TX around 1885 and moved to Chickasaw Nation, Indian Terr. about 1895. A lot of Breeden cousins still live in Oklahoma.

The JACKs and their allied family the WAYMANs have been fun to explore. Born in either VA or PA in 1776, Samuel Alexander Jack migrated to Washington Co. IN (then Northwest Terr.) about 1807, becoming one of the first settlers there. The Jack family lived there until 1940 or so.

MOOREs are hard to research simply because there's so many of them! George Washington Moore was born in 1820 in Indiana and married Malinda DUFF in Monroe Co. TN in 1842. They lived in Polk Co. TN until their deaths in 1886 and 1866 respectively. Their daughter, Sarah, married Civil War veteran, David Alexander Armstrong in 1865 and moved to Collin Co. TX.
(See ARMSTRONG for her travels).

For some reason every RAPER I've found knows a lot about their family history. The Rapers have a tradition of passing down information and staying close to family ties. William Raper was born about 1725 in Yorkshire ENG and died in Rowan Co. NC about 1795. His son, Jacob, died in Bradley Co. TN and his descendants lived in the Monroe Co. TN area until about 1885 when my gggrandfather, Rev. Meredith H. Raper, moved the family (including sons and daughters and their families!) to Fannin Co. TX in a covered wagon. Around 1895 they moved to Chickasaw Nation Indian Terr. (In 1907 it became Johnston Co. OK). Many Raper descendants are diligently researching their roots. The Raper/Rapier Family Home Page provides much information about this family at http://www.cdepot.net/raper

WININGER, although an uncommon name, is no easier to unravel. It seems that every generation and sometimes every brother spelled the name differently, from Winegar to Wineinger. My earliest ancestor, John Wininger, Jr. was born about 1830 in Hawkins Co. TN and married Piety HOPPER in 1857 in Martin Co. IN. Their descendants lived in the Martin & Orange Co. area.

I haven't made much headway on my WILSON line. George Wilson was born about 1814 in Kentucky He first married America Black and following her death he married Lucinda Wininger Scarlett, widow of Abraham Thomas Scarlett in Orange Co. IN. My great-grandmother, Olive, and her twin brother, Ben, were born in 1871 and were the only children of this marriage.

These are my roots. Please contact me by email or snail mail if you have any of these surnames in your family tree.
