Bebb Family History, Wales and ElsewhereUpdated September 5, 2000 |

| I'm interested in the history and origin of the name BEBB. Where does the name appear pre 1700? Is it Welsh, or did it arrive in Wales from somewhere else? Bebber, Bebbe, Bebba, Van Bebber have been suggested as possible origins (mostly Saxon), also de Boebe. Closer to home, looking for my ancestors in the Rhondda and before that Montgomeryshire. Thomas, Evan and Morris are family names. Elon crops up a couple of times. Elon and/or Evan Charles Bebb emigrated to Canada early 1900s. Would appreciate info on Canadian Bebbs, especially pre 1950. The name William Bebb is associated with Ohio. It appears that (very broadly) Williams originate from west Montgomeryshire and Thomases from the east. I'm happy to get snippets about any of them, perhaps to add to my Bebb Family History home page - see below. Other names of interest: ----------------------- WHITNEY - the Welsh ones. Llanelly in Breconshire (not Llanelli), Blaina in Monmouthshire, any time but especially pre 1850. (Crickhowell and Bedwellty). Also Pennsylvania, mid 1800s. GOUGH - Henry and daughter Sarah, south Wales, around 1900 or earlier. Any Goughs around the Blaina, Abertillery area now. FLEMING - same area as Gough. I have Jane Fleming, mother of Sarah. DAVIES - lots of these, but I have Emily, born in the late 1800s. ORMAN - southern England, Bournemouth area. WATSON - Scotland, maybe Renfrew, especially if their relatives emigrated to mine coal in Bedford Co, Pennsylvania. ----------------------- In case you're wondering - I was told that Dewi was a distant cousin, but I never met him! |
