Mercer County, Kentucky records of the Caleb Sims family are largely those of two descendants, Mrs. Lee A. Sims of Frankfort, Ky & Teery F. White of Harrodsburg, Ky, who have researched family Bibles, traditions, cemetery & court house records. Terry White has a copy of a lettersent to Garland & Leo Sims & he thinks that Alexander & Nicholas may have been sons of Caleb by first wife, but no proof available at present. His research includes dates from Bible of Garland & Nancy Mann Sims - now in possession of Osie Noel Woods, dau of Lucy Jane Sims Noel: many dates from tombstones; also data from many descendants still living in Mercer County, Ky. & vincinity.

Benjamin Leavell was a witness to a will of William Simms' father James Sims February 18, 1802. He was a neighbor, as Daniel Field, etc. sold to James Sims 233 Acres 1797 with one boundary "corner Benj. Leavell & James Sims."

Although the 1810 Censu of Madison County Va shows William with eight children (assuming all entries are his children), the name of only one is known with certainty, that is Betsy who married Edward Sherrod Tucker. It is to be noted that in this connection with Benjamin Leavell Senr & wf Milley of Culpeper sold three tracts of land October 1813 to Philip Slaughter, William Simms & wf Mary of Madison sold to John Miller (who married Elizabeth Simms, dau of George, in 1809) September 19, 1814 171 Acres S side Crooked run; & Charles Major (b-i-l of Wm Simms) of Madison sold land to John Tucker of Culpeper August 1812, with Wm Simms, Edward Tucker, Daniel Brown & Wm Wallis, wits.

Nearly all of these people disappear from the records of these counties about this time - migrating westward, as did Betsy Sims & husband Edward Tucker.
