I am researching my fathers families surnames which include: Peter Smith (b. in Belgium); Harriet Dewerle (b. in France or Fr. Canada). Family said they both immigrated from Alscace-Lorraine>Canada>NY>McKean Co.,PA>Washington Co.,PA; and Hartsock (Herzog from Kehl,Ger.>Washington Co., PA),Eschbach (Ashbrook) (Ger.>PA), Jonathon Holmes (PA), Catherine Troxell (PA), Aurand (PA),Kennelley, Shannon, Dunlap, Haberacker, Rapp, Shildt, & Strickler (PA), Howell (PA), King(MD>PA), McElroy, McGeary from PA, Zug/Zook. Other surnames connected to these are Anchors, Blayney, Brice, Brownlee, Carroll, Ewart, Garlano, Hamme, Haun, Kennard, Knack, Miller, Spier, Turner, & Vezie. Smith was originally Schmidt or someother spelling. The earliest date we have for Smith is 1862 in Buffalo, NY.
My mothers family line of Hughes (Ont., Can.) is already traced back to Richard Hughes and Anne McQuaid immigrating from Ireland in 1819, their son Thomas married MaryAnn Hughes (his cousin), daug. of Hughes(Joseph Robert)married to Burns (Alicia), McKenzie & Beaton all in Ontario, Canada. The other side of her family the surnames are Siegwart & Braun from Baiersbronn, Wuerttemberg, Germany. Both families first came to Canada and then settled in Huron Co., MI. Other surnames from Baiersbronn are Armbruster, Ehmann, Faist, Finkbiener, Gaiser, Gunter, Haist, Mast, Stritt, Rothfuss & Schmelzlin, Wurth, and from MI. are Bilyou, Diller, Deming, Boddy, O'Connel, Parnall, Pobanz, Shaw, Wolfendon. The STRITT surname was my ggg-grandmother Susanna who was born Jan. 8, 1773 in Unterwangen, Stühlingen, Baden, Germany, the daughter of Johannes Stritt and Barbara Wahl. Susanna married Johannes Haist of Baiersbronn. Their daughter Elisabetha Haist b. July 4, 1812 in Baiersbronn married Gottlieb Sigwart, widower & Glassmaker of Buhlbach-Baiersbronn, he was the son of Anton Sigwart & Anna Maria Schmid.

Sprader, (original name was Szprejda), and we believe they immigrated from the area of Kolmar, Poznan, Poland. Our Sprader family, Valentini Szprejda settled in the Manistee area of MI., but a brother Vincent, who kept the Szprejda name settled in Wisc. Parents are Stanislaus Szprejda & Agnes Holewinski. Valentini married Marianna (Mary E.) Zambrowski in Manistee, Michigan. Familiy that immigrated to Bay City, MI. are Bartholomew Sliwinski(some descendants changed this surname to Plummer)& Josephine Mary Czarnecki. Bart's brothers John and Michael also settled there. Bart's son George Albert Sliwinski married Catherina Petronella Lewicki, born in Chwalszyce, Poznan, Poland, her parents: Lawrence (Walenty)Lewicki (Nekla,Poznan,Poland) & Petronella Brozynski (Chwalszyce, Poznan, Poland). Lawrence's parents: Bartholomiej Lewicki (son of Ladislaus & Brigitta Szwaia) & Agnieska Wojtkowiak (daug. of Adalbert & Hedwig Felixconski). Petronella Brozynski parents: Joannes (Jan), son of Franciscus & Marianna Szarfranilich, & Marianna Szarzynski the daughter of Valentini & Regina Mlodzikowski.
