| This page is dedicated to the families of my Grandfather, John Downy Conley. The Conley, the Rice, the Blair, and the Witten Families are included in this page. I have done this by tracing the genealogy of the oldest head of each family which I have knowledge of. This work is a compilation of research by some of East Kentucky's finest genealogists and historians. I would like to thank the late William Elsey Connelley, the late John Hayden Rice, Ms. Ruth Salyer, Todd Preston, Edward Hayslette, Mrs. Betty Jo Trimble Burchett, and Mr. Wallace M. Conley for their assistance and education concerning the history and folklore concerning the Connelly family. Mr. Jerry Conley, Mrs. Connie Marie Conley Noyes, Mrs. Shirley Ann Buckner and Mrs. Marilee Spradlin Multhup have been invaluable in updating me with the many twists and turns the family has taken. I would especially thank Dr. Michael Nestor, who along with Mrs. Sharon Thasen aided in the discovery of the David H. Connelly family. I thank Mr. Charles Miller for the work he has done uncovering the family of Elizabeth Connelly. I would also like to thank my many cousins from all over America whose stories have brought all these characters to life. This page is constantly growing thanks to the lineages and stories folks like yourself have sent my way. For those of you seeking information on the Pelphrey, Fairchild and Blanton Families which I had posted at this site, I have given each of them a site of their own. The links are available at the bottom of this page. I have expanded the Pelphrey Page to include the Trimble, Salyer, VanHoose, and Lemaster Families. The Fairchild Page now includes the Cantrell, Hitchcock, and Ratliff Families. The Blanton Page now includes the McKenzie, Cantrell, and Davis Families. I am also developing a site for research and communication between folks interested in these families as well as Appalachian Culture at www.connellyclan.com. I hope this report both entertains and educates you concerning the lives of some of the folks who have lived and died in the hills of East Kentucky. |
