| I am researching the descendants of Captain John STARR of England and Ireland. Five of his grandchildren came from Ireland to Pennsylvania in the early 1700's. So far I have identified 47,225 of his descendants. The first arrivals to America were my Quaker ancestors James Starr (born 1676) and Rachel Laybourne (born 1686) who immigrated to Chester County, Pennsylvania in 1712. I am particularly interested in finding the ship on which they arrived. One of my Starr ancestors, Reverend John Wesley Starr, migrated to the Oregon Territory in 1848. Any information would be appreciated. I am also willing to share information that I have. Additions and corrections are welcome. Did you know that the outlaw Henry Starr was descended from John Starr, the brother of James Starr? The infamous Belle Starr (nee Myra Maybelle Shirley) was married to Henry's cousin, Sam Starr. I am also researching LANGHORNE and SPERRY family genealogy. See additional sections below. If your surname is STARR (maiden name for women) I encourage you to consider genealogical DNA testing, even if you know that you are not descended from this particular line of Starrs. DNA from both the Captain John Starr and Comfort Starr lines would help determine whether these two lines are genetically related. I suggest using Family Tree DNA (see link below) which offers 12, 25, 37, and 67 marker Y-DNA tests which follow the male line. (A woman, lacking a Y-chromosome, will need to have her father or brother tested.) The 37 marker test is an excellent choice, and much reduced group pricing is available through the 'Starr DNA Project Home Page' link below. With this test you can also join the Starr surname project to compare DNA results. See the links below for more information. |
