| Researching: DRURY, COULTER, GIDEON, GIDLEY, HEMPHILL, LOGAN, LYONS, MCCAULEY, McKINNEY, POLLOCK, REID, SANDS, SHAY, STEVENSON, TELFORD, TUTTLE, & OTHERS *** NOTE!!!*** Please visit my UPDATED webpage at http://GenealogySource.com for my online gedcom file, Family Pages, Links, Genealogy Resources, and more. Welcome to my Family Tree Page! I have been interested in my family's ancestors and history since around 1970 when my great-aunt gave me copies of some old genealogy worksheets. I began doing my own research in 1997. HOW THIS SITE IS ORGANIZED Included in these pages are about 14,000 individual names that connect into my family tree. I am interested in hearing from anyone whose family tree connects to a name on this one. All the names in my database are listed in an alphabetical index in the "Ancestor Database by Surname" Report in the Trees, Reports, and Books section. Also included in this section are descendant reports for some of my key ancestors. There is a link to a searchable GEDCOM file of my database in the Related Links section. The photos on this page are primarily of my Stevenson ancestors. There is a link in the Related Links section to another Stevenson page with a few more photos, as well as a Stevenson Guest Book. There is also a link to my separate website with photos of descendants of James Isham Gideon, as well as biographical sketches of several early pioneer Gideons. There is a Gideon Guestbook on that page. I have compiled a number of Stevenson and related family reports and histories into a Stevenson Family Tree Book in the Trees, Reports, and Books section. Click the link to see the Table of Contents. My Family Origins STEVENSON My earliest Stevenson ancestors were from Renfrewshire,Scotland. My ggggg-grandparents were Robert Stevenson, m. Christian REID in Paisley, SCT in 1744. Their children were baptized and married in Neilston Parish, and were contemporaries of Robert Louis Stevenson's ancestors who attended the same parish. I would like to correspond with any RLS researchers to identify a connection between these Stevenson families. Their son Michael Stevenson and wife Janet Telford/Telfer, came to the U.S. with their family in 1840 and settled in Randolph County, Illinois. Their grandsons Tom, Edward, Sam, Jack, and William played in the "Stevenson Boys Band" in southern Illinois in the late 1800's. There's a picture of the band in the Photo Gallery. GIDEON James Isham GIDEON, b.1748 in Cork, Ireland, came to Norfolk, VA in 1764 with his two brothers. They all served in the American Revolutionary War. James Isham married Martha "Patty" MILLS in 1787 in Wilkes Co, NC. Several of their descendants were early pioneers of southwest Missouri. (See Gideon Webpage link) DRURY My Ste. Genevieve, MO Drury line goes back to Drieu of Normandy, a Knight from Normandy, France who participated in the Norman Conquest of England under William the Conqueror in 1066. The Drurys became one of the most prominent families of England, with at least eighteen Knights. I have included on this webpage the 1937 book by Arthur Campling, "The History of the Family of DRURY in the Counties of Suffolk and Norfolk From the Conquest". It not only describes my direct Drury line in detail but is a great reference source on medieval England. My 6th great-grandfather John Drury of St. Mary's County, Maryland married Susannah Hayden, who descended from a long line English and European royalty. |
