George Washington MARTIN's parents were married in Ireland. This he states in his pension papers.
George also states in a Civil War pension affidavit dated 1914 that his family is dead and he cannot produce a bible or any record of birth!!

George MARTIN was born 6/17/1844 in Baltimore, MD or Adams Co., PA. per his muster in papers.
He served in the CIVIL WAR in 1st Maryland Reg.Co. G. out of Cockeysville, MD and mustered out in VA.

George MARTIN married Anna McCLOSKY in the Presbyterian church in Phoenixville, PA on 12/25/1870. Have been unable to obtain
church records for that time period.

Children are

Mary Jane (born 1871) married George BUSHNELL 1889 (died 1891) &
Ira ROSENBOROUGH 1892,

Charles Henry (born 1874) married Sarah BURNETT 1901,

John Franklin (born 1877 Delaware Co., PA)served in Spanish-American War, married Sadie ??? after 1910 &
Emma Pfanner Rees 1944
he died 1949 in Batavia Veterans Hospital

Annie Mae (born 12/24/1879) married Harry Jackson McFARLAN 1901,


George Andrew (born 1884 in Valley Forge) married Nellie BAKER 1916 Greenwich, Washington Co., NY


Margaret R. Louise (born 1887) married Wm. BACKENSTOSE 1904

George and Anna MARTIN lived in Downingtown, Chester Co., PA most of their lives, raised their family there and are buried in Northwoods Cemetery. George died in 1915 and Anna in 1909.

George's father may be George W. Martin also according to a duplicate death certificate included in his pension papers.

Anna's parents are Andrew McCLOSKY/McCLUSKY and Ellen DORAN. They arrived in PA 1850 from Ireland when Anna was 6 mos. They are in the 1850 federal census. Have found this family in the 1870 & 1880 federal census with two other daughters Sallie & Maggie.

D.A.R. papers have been verified!!!

Not through George Martin but through his daughter-in-law Nellie Baker Martin. Her mother was Eliza Lamkins BAKER. Eliza's father Charles LAMKINS married Eliza SNELL. Eliza Snell's mother was Jane Bragg Snell married to David Snell. Jane Bragg's grandfather Nicholas BRAGG fought with a NH regiment during the American Revolution and was at the Battle of Saratoga. He is buried in Springfield VT. Nicholas Bragg's father Alexander married Elizabeth Luther. She is of the Swansea Luther's starting with Captain John LUTHER.
